John Cutsinger was the featured speaker at the 2010 Winter Advisers’ Seminar
March 5 and 6, held at the newly-remodeled Abbey
Resort on Lake Geneva in Fontana, Wisconsin.
A 35-year veteran of scholastic journalism, John has advised nationally aclaimed yearbooks, newspapers, and magazines. He now shares his enthusiasm and talents with advisers and students all over the country. Recognized as a Dow Jones National Teacher of the Year, and winner of NSPA’s Pioneer Award and a CSPA Gold Key, John now is Senior Creative Accounts Manager for Jostens and continues to author yearbook curriculum and journal articles, as well as speak- ing and teaching around the country at conferences and conventions.
John’s topics included advising strategies, the work place, the creative process, and the write stuff. John was joined by Richard Kirchner, JEA Illinois Principal of the Year, and Rick Wood, photographer for the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel who presented sessions on the prinicpal's point of view and pointers from a photojournalism pro, respectively. |

registration (before February 1) is $80 per participant (with
an additional $35 for each additional dinner guest).
- Late
registration is $90 (with an additional $35 for each additional
dinner guest).

- On Friday,
sessions are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with appropriate time
for meals, breaks, check-in, etc. Registration is at 9 a.m.
- After a social
hour and dinner on Friday (included with the registration fee), participants
engage in a memento exchange, involving items from their schools –
such as t-shirts, caps, etc.
- Participants
are also asked to bring copies of their publications for browsing
or exchange.
KEMPA is a registered
professional development provider with the Illinois State Board of Education.
The Winter Seminar earns Illinois teachers seven CPDUs towards recertification.
