JEA’s Mark Newton coming in March

Journalism Education President Mark Newton will be the featured speaker at the 2012 Winter Advisers’ Seminar March 2 and 3, to be held at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Mark advises the Eagle Eye newspaper and Aerie yearbook at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. He's been a teacher for 25 years and, in addition to his many duties with JEA, he serves on the Advisory Council of the Student Press Law Center.

Students at member schools can apply for scholarships

KEMPA offers scholarships to students of KEMPA member school who are planning to major in journalism, photojournalism, communications, or related areas at accredited colleges or universities.

Scholarship applications are due by March 23. Click here to download the scholarship application, which includes complete instructions and other information.

Zoller begins first term as KEMPA’s president

Stan Zoller was elected as KEMPA president at the board of directors' December meeting. Zoller had previously served as KEMPA's vice president, and he continues to serve as co-director of the Winter Advisers' Seminar.

Former KEMPA president Linda Barrington has been appointed to the position of executive director. She succeeds Jan Kohls in the position. Kohls was honored by the Journalism Education Association in November with its Medal of Merit for her significant contributions to scholastic journalism.
